Requirements

  • Successful completion from an accredited medical certification program (ie CNA, Med Tec, etc.) or previous EEG experience required.
  • Clinical experience (student and/or professional) with multi-modality neurodiagnostic testing preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients and family members as well as hospital personnel and coworkers required.
  • Ability to effectively organize work in order to perform several tasks at once required.
  • Computer skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies each patient by ID band verification and birth date.
  • Educates patient on procedure and confirms understanding prior to beginning the procedure.
  • Gathers pertinent medical history to aid neurologist in the interpretation of data gathered during testing.
  • Performs and records electroencephalography (EEG) exams.
  • Assists neurologists in the completion and recording of electromyography (EMG) exams.
  • Critiques each exam for technical and positional accuracy and makes appropriate corrections if necessary.
  • Logs each patient on log sheet and bills appropriately in Cerner following the procedure.
  • Reviews orders for clinical and demographic consistency and verifies accuracy prior to exam.
  • Maintains awareness of ongoing exams and assists co-workers as needed.
  • Provides exam information and status updates to pertinent staff members.
  • Flexes workload to meet patient care needs; arranges schedules to prioritize patients and testing.
  • Starts and completes own exams correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures proper patient identification on all exams to comply with department policies and procedures.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality coinciding with HIPAA.
  • Coordinates and performs EEG and EMG procedures according to department policy and procedures.
  • Collaborates in maintaining proper inventory and works with IT and Bio-Med when equipment or system goes down.
  • Demonstrates ability to access environment of care policies on computer.
  • Orients Neurodiagnostic Techs and/or other assigned staff to the equipment used by Methodist for EEG and EMG exams.
