About The Position

The Electroencephalographic (EEG) Tech II (Registered) has passed examination by ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation (ABRET) and proven competence to obtain credential in electroencephalography (R. EEG T.*). The EEG Technologist II has a minimum three years' experience in performing electroencephalography. The EEG Technologist II provides findings, results, and a descriptive analysis according to facility policy and procedures. Strong well-developed communication skills are essential for this position. The EEG Technologist II performs procedures appropriate to their competence and credentials held under general technical supervision.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or Equivalent Experience
  • 3 years of experience in a related field
  • Registered EEG Tech (REET) - AMERICAN BOARD OF REGISTRATION OF ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHIC & EVOKED POTENTIAL TECHNOLOGISTS (ABRET)

Responsibilities

  • Ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10-20 System
  • Knowledgeable in correct EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results
  • Maintains the patient's safety through communication to other patient care support staff during EEG if needed
  • Continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPAA practices, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation and preparation for use
  • Performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive function
  • Knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects on activity monitored
  • Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and healthcare staff to convey the purpose of the EEG and answers questions regarding the procedure
  • Understands why and how to maintain correct electrode connections
  • Identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and eliminations
  • Understands and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the EEG unit
  • Has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and alternate equipment settings and their effects should be applied
  • Familiar with the facility policy and procedures for completion of the technical EEG report, charging procedures, and logging the patient into files
  • Contacts supervisory staff as appropriate for problems within the EEG unit, stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
