About The Position

The Flint Institute of Arts is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Art Educator to deliver high-quality art education through various programs, including school and community outreach, gallery tours, lectures, and studio activities. This role is essential for fostering creativity and engagement among diverse groups, from Pre-K to adults, while maintaining an inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA, BS, or BFA) in Art Education, Fine Arts/Design, Education, or Museum Studies from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in visual arts and design principles.
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of childhood development, behavior management techniques, and educational theories.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.

Nice To Haves

  • Michigan K-12 Teaching Certificate (current or past).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator to design age-appropriate lesson plans and educational activities for diverse groups ranging from Pre-K to adults.
  • Teach a variety of art lessons to Pre-K-Adult groups.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity and engagement.
  • Use effective teaching strategies to address varied learning needs, including special education adaptations.
  • Assess student progress and tailor instructional approaches to support their development.
  • Work with colleagues and external partners to create meaningful educational experiences and special programming.
  • Maintain art studios and manage supplies to ensure an efficient and inspiring creative environment.
  • Assist the Director in planning and delivering educational programs and substitute for colleagues as needed.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current in educational strategies and artistic practices.
