About The Position

The Education Coordinator is a Registered Nurse (RN) who is responsible for providing new hire orientation and annual in-service educational programs, including the completion of Relias mandatory orientation and monthly assignments, for all employees. The Education Coordinator identifies, assesses, and implements in service programs as needed regarding the satisfactory performance of clinical skills and other education content areas. Evaluates education needs through rounding to ensure on-going adherence to standards of practice.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and currently licensed, in good standing, as an RN with the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
  • Exceptional clinical and customer service skills.
  • Ability to seek out new methods and principles and update existing practices.
  • Proficient in clinical skills including IV therapy.
  • Sound knowledge of adult education theory and practices.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and OSHA laws and licensure regulations related to long term care.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and evaluate the effectiveness of Center educational programs to a variety of professional and non-professional employees.
  • Utilize current standards of practice to demonstrate skills, including clinical skills.
  • Work with Center consultants and department heads to implement recommended changes.
  • Identifies nursing employee developmental needs and implements education and development plans to meet the needs of the nursing employee.
  • Develop plans to ensure and monitor attendance for educational programs.
  • Serves as Relias education champion to ensure completion of mandatory e-learning assignments (orientation and monthly).
  • Assist in formulating goals and objectives of the educational programs in the Center.
  • Serves as a member of the Administrative Nursing Team, including on-call assignment, when indicated.
  • Assists in the development of the non-eLearning annual Education Plan for the Center.
  • Select, schedule, design, implement, evaluate, and record in-service education for all Center employees.
  • Direct and provide required orientation for newly employed employees of the Center, addressing the yearly mandatory educational topics.
  • Coordinate, conduct, and validate the completion of competency checklists for all nursing employees upon hire, annually and as needed. Maintain records of completion in the employee’s personnel file maintained by Human Resources department.
  • Work with clinical staff during their orientation period to assure effective on-boarding of employees.
  • Assist and coordinate with all department managers in the development of departmental specific educational needs.
  • Conduct patient care rounds daily to assess educational and clinical needs of nursing employee.
  • Conduct medication and treatment pass observation for licensed nurses, prior to being assigned to an on the-floor preceptor.
  • Ensure consistent on-the-floor training through the selection of exemplar preceptors for all nursing employees.
  • Comply Center policies and procedures on confidentiality, conduct, and chain of command.
  • Prepare an in-service summary, including a Relias Completion Report monthly for Quality Improvement.
  • Ensure that educational programs are made available on all shifts, including weekends.
  • Identify and utilize behavioral objectives in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for nursing employees.
  • Maintains current knowledge and understanding of clinical and pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting patient care in the center and disseminates such information as appropriate in formal and informal sessions.
  • Coordinate with Schools of Nursing and/or Nursing Assistant Programs clinical practicum opportunities within the center, when applicable.
  • Ensures CNAs employed by the center have completed at a minimum 12-hours of regulatory in-service education each year. Maintain education records.
  • Responsible for obtaining TB screening and TST, including documentation for all employees.
  • Responsible for coordinating, administration of and tracking annual influenza, pneumonia, and COVID vaccines when indicated for patients and employees of the center.
  • Implement a Nurse Aide training program in accordance with approved curriculum as outlined by the Board of Nursing, where applicable. Keeps the Board of Nursing informed of Nurse Aide program changes, if applicable.
  • Provide for and coordinate staff developmental programs based on Federal, State, and OSHA guidelines, including regulatory standards.
  • Assist in the assessment of educational needs and evaluation of clinical performance as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
