The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a motivated and passionate Educator to instruct students in their assigned curriculum area using developmental teaching methods. The role involves setting student goals, implementing behavioral techniques, and collaborating with school staff to maximize student potential.

  • Administers classroom and individual instruction to participating youth in the assigned subject area(s).
  • Develops curricula for each assigned teaching subject within the Core Curriculum policy.
  • Creates examination tools to measure students' strengths, weaknesses, and progress.
  • Maintains detailed records and reports on attendance, achievement, and individual student needs.
  • Directs students in recreational, social, or extracurricular activities.
  • Participates in regular teachers' meetings, including counselor-teacher meetings and staff development.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Possession of a current and valid Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Professional Educator License (PEL) in Secondary Education endorsement in the appropriate content area.
  • At least two (2) years of experience implementing behavior modification principles.
  • At least two (2) years of experience providing educational support to students with extreme emotional impairments.
  • At least one (1) year of experience evaluating students using provided tools for behavioral objectives.
  • At least one (1) year of experience assessing students' individual educational needs.
  • At least one (1) year of experience guiding staff on necessary training and educational development.
  • At least two (2) years of experience with Microsoft Word or equivalent software.
  • At least one (1) year of experience with Microsoft Excel or equivalent software.
  • At least one (1) year of experience with Microsoft Outlook or equivalent software.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and tolerance with a wide range of behavior.
