About The Position

The Educator/Case Manager at the Old Colony YMCA's Lawrence Community Justice Support Center is responsible for providing educational services to adults involved in the justice system, particularly those with a history of addiction. This role involves planning and implementing Adult Secondary Education (ASE) curriculum, overseeing HiSET testing, and maintaining educational records. The position also includes case management responsibilities, assisting clients with wrap-around support services to help them improve their lives and avoid further criminal justice involvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2 years experience in a related field
  • Valid MA Teaching Certificate (preferred)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong commitment to helping clients develop skills to complete the HiSET
  • Ability to work well in a diverse setting with high-risk populations.

Responsibilities

  • Complete an educational assessment on all new clients and assist in appropriate placement.
  • Develop and implement Adult Secondary Education (ASE) classes and individual education goals.
  • Provide individual and classroom instruction as needed.
  • Administer TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) tests and score them, ensuring records are maintained in educational files.
  • Provide a safe learning environment utilizing motivational interviewing strategies.
  • Work closely with colleges that administer HiSET exams and ensure timely registration of eligible participants.
  • Provide academic support and tutoring to clients.
  • Assist clients with College Admissions and FAFSA applications as needed.
  • Verify clients' high school diplomas, GED, or HiSET.
  • Facilitate Computer Skills/Keyboarding classes and financial/life skills groups as needed.
  • Ensure all casework services are consistent with the operating policies of the Office of Community Corrections (OCC).
  • Complete client intake assessments and provide input for treatment plans.
  • Make necessary referrals to outside agencies or departments as needed.
  • Create after care/discharge plans for select clients.
  • Participate in weekly Clinical and Multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • Keep client data and information updated in the database system.
