About The Position

The Ford Foundation Equity Initiative (FFEI) Internship Program at The Henry Ford is a cohort-based program that offers professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. We invite diverse candidates who are curious about careers in the museum world to become a part of our legacy and take it forward. For Summer 2026, internships will last 12 weeks, projected to begin on May 26th, 2026 and conclude on August 21st, 2026. Candidates who have a disability, identify as Black, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, Arab, Middle Eastern, Hispanic, Latino/a/x, LGBTQIA+, or who exist at the intersection of these identities are encouraged to apply. The Ford Foundation Equity Initiative Internship Program Overview and Time Commitment The FFEI Internship Program’s mission is to offer opportunities in museum work to emerging professionals who identify with historically marginalized groups and to invite our interns to think outside the box and explore their careers in new ways. Participants will engage in the program through various bi-weekly professional development workshops hosted on our Dearborn campus. Workshops typically occur on Wednesdays during the work week. It is mandatory for participants to attend, and applicants should work with their leadership to ensure proper attendance. Attendance to our Intern Orientation is also mandatory. Our 2026 Summer Intern Orientation will occur on May 26th, 2026. How will we work together? The Educational Programming Intern can expect to work a hybrid schedule. Based on specific project needs, there are times when you and the team will work on-site at The Henry Ford’s campus in Dearborn, MI. Through this internship, you will have the chance to complete a specific long-term project that supports the creation and delivery of the educational offerings provided by Invention Convention Worldwide. Invention Convention Worldwide is a K-12 invention education program that teaches students problem-identification, problem-solving, entrepreneurship and creativity skills and builds confidence in invention, innovation and entrepreneurship for life. Invention Convention programs happen at the school, local, regional and national levels in the United States and a growing number of countries worldwide. One of the first events you will experience in this position is the RTX Invention Convention U.S. Nationals 2026, which takes place June 3-5 on the Floor of The Henry Ford Museum. Prepare to be onsite all 3 days of this event. After this exciting start, your position will be hybrid- part onsite and part online. You will learn of the several different programs that comprise the educational programming department, including the Independent Inventor Program, Youth Inventor Connects, The Invention Convention Worldwide Curriculum, The Alumni Program, and other programs as well. What should you have ? Applicants to this position must have at least 2 years of college experience. College graduates and graduate students are also encouraged to apply. We are looking for candidates who have and demonstrate the following skills: Curiosity Dedication to collaboration and teamwork Ability to ask for help Interest in education Passion for investing in the next generation Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Email, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to conduct basic research Ability to communicate clearly and responsibly Ability to complete assignments on time Critical Thinking Problem Solving Iteration- Ability to work with constructive feedback and continue to improve Media literacy, including the ability to analyze, evaluate, and critique all forms of communication including social media, websites, archives, and our own educational materials.
