About The Position

UConn’s Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy is seeking a qualified Program Assistant to assist with the administration of programs.  In particular, the institute is seeking a Program Assistant for the Connecticut Sentencing Commission. The IMRP is a dynamic non-partisan organization that strives to effectively inspire and sustain a just, equitable, and inclusive Connecticut through independent research and evaluation, public policy analysis and development, and community engagement. The IMRP is situated within UConn’s School of Public Policy and housed at the UConn Hartford campus. Under the direction of a program manager or director, the Program Assistant will assist with the day-to-day administrative activities of the program(s).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Two to three years of related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as displaying attention to detail.
  • Experience working collaboratively and effectively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Four or more years of related professional experience.
  • Experience with funded projects involving research, technical assistance, policy and/or program development.
  • Experience in public policy, research, criminal or social justice.
  • Experience working in a university setting.
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with numerous diverse community partners.
  • Experience assisting commissions, task forces, advisory boards, or other government or quasi-government entities.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general office operations and processes and maintains the necessary paperwork, records, and files required to support the program.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and others affiliated with the University, as well as from community members, state and municipal government leaders, and others external to the University, regarding program policies, procedures, and requirements, making referrals as appropriate.
  • Compiles data and assists in the preparation of reports to support program activities and publicize program achievements.
  • Serves as a resource in advising students or partners regarding program activities.
  • Explains program policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Provides administrative and technical support as well as program logistics for program faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders.
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes program activities, research, training, conference presentations, and events.
  • Represents the program at the designation, or in the absence of the program manager or director.
  • Reviews, copies, edits, and/or develops research, informational, and promotional materials.
  • May assist in establishing budgets and monitoring financial activity for an assigned area.
  • Performs related work as required.
