About The Position

The Governmental Relations position conducts activities and provides support for the areas of governmental relations in the DFC and provides support to the Chancellor of the DFC in such areas as legislative matters, rulemaking, and policy development.

Responsibilities

  • The employee must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions.
  • The employee’s performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the unit.
  • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of governmental relations in Florida.
  • Acts as the DFC liaison with Florida College System (FCS) institutions’ governmental affairs personnel.
  • Assists the DOE Governmental Relations Office as directed to foster a cohesive DOE Legislative program.
  • Supports and assists DFC program staff and the Chancellor with the development and monitors the progress of FCS and DFC legislative initiatives and policy proposals.
  • Drafts, reviews and revises DFC bill analyses which will effect changes and improvements in policy or the delivery of services in the FCS.
  • Maintains the legislative calendar and required reports as requested by the DOE governmental affairs team.
  • Tracks and ensures timely completion of State Board of Education Rules for the Division, coordinating with the DOE agency clerk and the Office of the General Counsel.
  • Assists with external events hosted by the Division or the Department as requested.
  • Assists with communications functions of the Division and Department as requested.
  • Drafts talking points for policy/budget recommendations as requested.
  • Participates with the Chancellor in the coordination of key policy meetings and in any programmatic policy items that may be related to Florida College System.
  • Demonstrates leadership and individual effectiveness in representing the Division of Florida Colleges at meetings as requested by the Chancellor.
  • Represents the Chancellor on issues relating to the State Board of Education, the Florida College system, and the Legislature as directed.
  • Participates on the Chancellor’s Leadership Team in a broad range of policy support on FCS issues.
  • Serves as the backup for the Emergency Management Liaison for the Division and assists in duties during natural disasters and other emergencies.
