About The Position

The City-Wide Paraeducator position is located at South Side Elementary School and reports to the Special Education Teacher. The role involves assisting in small group and individual pupil instruction, maintaining discipline, and supporting instructional activities under the direction of the special education teacher. The paraeducator will work with both special education and regular students, assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), supervise students during recess and lunch, and perform various administrative tasks such as copying materials and preparing paperwork. The position may also require supporting students with toileting needs and involves working throughout the school building and occasionally off campus.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
• Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree.
• Successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment which assesses content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).

Responsibilities

• Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
• Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
• Assist teacher with instructional activities.
• Escort students from room to room.
• Toileting students is sometimes required.
• Involves work with both special education and regular students.
• Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP.
• Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch.
• Assist students with classroom assignments.
• Copy materials for instructional purposes.
• Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork.
• Alert teachers to problems that may be observed.
• May require supporting with toileting of students.
• PMT required and provided by district.
