Implement and monitor academic standards and excellence for Tribal children tutor students in specific area of need, plan activities and document educational progress. Work with Tribal children on a daily basis both in school and after school to achieve academic success. The incumbent is expected to work in accordance with the mission, purpose, and values of the Colusa Indian Community Council. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. In and after school tutoring with tribal member students which may require: the ability to work with children who have mild to moderate learning disabilities, using general education curriculum, or modify to meet the child’s individual needs; ability to communicate with teachers and parents to support the educational progress of the students; act as a mentor and educational advocate to assist in the students’ progress; and monitor grade reports for every student. Plan and implement activities that encourage educational achievement. Assess, assist and encourage students in the learning process. Explain problem-solving methods in an easy-to-understand way. Provide encouragement and positive motivation. Recognize primary role to help students become more confident, more successful, self-directed learners. Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences. Transport students to/from tutoring program and/or Department activities. Prepping and light cooking of snacks/meals as needed for the program. Process POs as needed for Department. Assist with planning, organizing, facilitating and supervising youth activities, including but not limited to all activities planned within programs of the Community Services Department. Follow organizational health and safety standards for cleaning and sanitizing. Act as a liaison between the Tribal community and educational agencies on behalf of Indian students and parents. Advocate for students and parents with individual teachers, schools and educational agencies. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, participants and parents. Provide support to parents in addressing issues hindering their children’s educational success, including areas of Special Education and individuals with disabilities. Educate parents as to their rights, as well as the rights of the students. Develop and initiate ongoing parental orientation and support. Provide emotional and behavioral support to youth and families. May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position.
