About The Position

The Educational Interpreter provides interpreting services in educational settings for deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind students, ensuring they have access to communication in the classroom. This role involves facilitating communication between students, peers, and instructors, and may include additional responsibilities such as tutoring and vocational support. The position requires collaboration with educational teams and adherence to policies and procedures of the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and Blind.

Requirements

• Certified Sign Language Interpreter
• High school diploma or GED
• Experience with children
• Clinical Documentation Certification
• Continuous integration
• Visually impaired education
• CPT coding
• Classroom experience
• Deaf education
• Associate's degree or higher in Interpreting, American Sign Language, or Deaf Studies
• Minimum proficiency in interpreting skills (EIPA score of 3.5 or higher or valid RID/NAD/BEI certification)
• Ability to pass FBI and State background check
• Defensive Driver Training Program completion.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of twelve (12) hours of professional development annually.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpreting services in educational settings for deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind students.
• Facilitate communication between students, peers, and instructors.
• Clarify information interpreted to aid student understanding of lesson content.
• Participate as an IEP team member regarding language use and communication access.
• Communicate with classroom teachers about the communication needs of students.
• Assist students individually in academic or vocational subjects as assigned by the IEP team.
• Arrange and schedule Educational Interpreters as a Lead Educational Interpreter.
• Collect and summarize interpreting data for analysis.
• Provide feedback to staff and facilitate professional development opportunities.
