About The Position

Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide staff support in an educational environment, with emphasis on providing support to teachers, staff and students. Position generally works with children individually in providing basic instruction in reading, writing, math, spelling, art, or other education-related activities. Incumbents assist teachers with all other facets of school activities. Essential functions as outlined herein are performed according the needs of the assigned teacher(s). Performs related work as directed.

Requirements

• Current Level III license or eligible for Level III Educational Assistant License
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work, and effectively attend to the needs of school age children; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Additional hours training preferred.
• Must complete a fingerprint background check
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
• Ability to assist with preparation of reports and correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, peers and community.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers and community.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
• Ability to use computers and other technology to accomplish job responsibilities.
• Ability to perform tasks quickly and efficiently and follow verbal directions.

Responsibilities

• Assist students and teachers in classrooms
• Work with students to reinforce skills initially taught by the teacher
• Guide independent study, enrichment, and remedial work of individual and small groups of students
• Assist with appropriate student assessments
• Maintain records of services rendered to individual students
• Maintain a professional and positive working relationship with the classroom teacher
• Keep the teacher/coordinator updated on the progress of students
• Other duties as assigned
