About The Position

The Educational Assistant - Transportation (SPED) is responsible for monitoring special education students with moderate to severe needs and challenging or emotional difficulties on school buses. This role includes assisting with securing wheelchairs and other equipment, as well as developing and promoting good community relations among various community members and school clientele.

Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent (Required)
  • CPI - DCSD Certification
  • First Aid/CPR Certification - Colorado
  • Special Needs Certification - Certified Care
  • Able to read and understand Behavior and Health Care Plans.

Responsibilities

  • Perform appropriate record keeping, including accounting for Medicaid and ZPass forms.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections.
  • Effectively monitor students on bus for behavior, special assistance, and emergency intervention; intervene and handle escalated behavior.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Communicate with parents and other school personnel as needed.
  • Assist in instruction, documentation, behavior support, medical and health needs of each student.
  • Maintain proper equipment and materials on bus for care of students with moderate and severe needs.
