About The Position

Support the delivery of the educational program to students.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years post-secondary (48 credits), Associate Degree, or passing score on the Title I Paraprofessional Assessment test administered through I.U.5, preferred.
  • High School diploma.
  • Have an interest in libraries and possess a willingness to work with others, particularly students.
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining a calm and helpful demeanor.
  • Typing skills and computer literacy, required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of District and school business.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of online library.
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find acceptable and appropriate.
  • Ability to sit, talk, and hear.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and move quickly when necessary to promote student learning and/or safety.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to push items of 50 lbs. such as pushing children in a wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
  • Auditory acuity to be able to use telephone.
  • Visual acuity to read correspondence and computer screen.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Must be courteous.
  • Must be cooperative, congenial, service-oriented, and promote these qualities in the building.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all clerical duties, including:
  • Correspondence
  • Bibliographies
  • Forms for library use
  • Statistics and records
  • Computer catalog records
  • Computer catalog operations
  • Book processing/management (spine labels, bar coding, etc.)
  • Input library borrowers’ information into computer.
  • Assist in preparing materials for use and repair of materials. These duties include:
  • Process all new library materials (books, periodicals, and AV resources).
  • Create MARC records for all library materials.
  • Repair of materials in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in preparation of materials for bibliographies including gathering materials for teachers when requested.
  • Perform circulation tasks of all library materials (books, periodicals, and AV resources).
  • Check materials in and out.
  • Arrange materials on the shelves.
  • Locate and retrieve materials.
  • Prepare and send overdue notices.
  • Record circulation statistics.
  • Process materials withdrawn by librarian, including removing MARC records of withdrawn materials and from catalog and Access PA.
  • Assist with inventory and deselecting.
  • Assist with displays and bulletin boards to enhance the atmosphere of the library.
  • Monitor students and library operations.
  • Respond to the needs and interest of all library patrons (students, teachers, administrators, and parents) under the supervision of the library coordinator and administration, while maintaining an appropriate study-oriented or leisure reading atmosphere.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all computer programs, subscription databases and other online resources.
  • Observe and report student behavior, using referral forms and other appropriate processes.
  • Fulfill lamination requests for the building.
  • Create hall passes for faculty when needed.
  • Enter classroom attendance for substitutes.
  • Lend Chromebooks to students.
  • Accept broken student devices from IT.
  • Replace toner as needed.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.
