About The Position

The Educational Assistant position at Apache Elementary is designed to support teachers in addressing the individual needs of students. The role involves assisting in preparing students academically and socially for success in school. The assistant will work closely with licensed personnel to maintain student involvement and discipline, while also providing support for independent study and supplementary work.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • AA degree, 45 college hours which include the necessary educational courses, or passing the ParaEducator exam.
  • Possess a Level III New Mexico Educational Assistant license.
  • Possess a Substitute license.
  • Any other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board.

Responsibilities

  • Assists licensed personnel in school environment.
  • Provides assistance with individual program materials.
  • Assists licensed personnel with student discipline.
  • Maintains student involvement in appropriate tasks.
  • Supervises independent study in school environment.
  • Responds to students as individuals.
  • Helps maintain cohesiveness in school environment.
  • Displays a desire to work with students.
  • Serves as a role model.
  • Works as a member of a team.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Uses current technology for instruction and management needs.
  • Works under supervision of certified teacher(s) and principal.
  • Assists in the preparation for program and classroom activities.
  • Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assists individual children in need of special attention.
  • Assists with classroom instruction.
  • Assists in the implementation of program goals and objectives.
  • Familiarizes with the teacher's lesson plans and assists in reinforcing them.
  • Assists with testing as needed.
  • Performs bridging activities in classrooms.
  • Familiarizes with textbooks and course content.
  • Has knowledge of the home language of the students.
  • Follows district and school procedures.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators.
