About The Position

As an Education Specialist, you will support students with diverse learning needs in a full inclusion setting. You will collaborate closely and co-teach with core content teachers to ensure that course work is accessible for students, develop small group lessons to help build students foundational skills, track student progress, and collaborate on students’ IEP teams. The quality of our school cannot exceed the quality of our Special Education team. In that spirit, we are seeking exceptional individuals to execute the following essential job functions and professional responsibilities: Scaffold and differentiate your lessons to support students towards independent mastery of content. Develop and administer a variety of formal and informal assessments to measure student growth and mastery and to improve instruction. Collaborate and co-plan with general education staff, Student Supports Team, Special Education team, and school leadership to ensure we continuously improve as a school and meet students’ needs. Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings. Develop and coordinate an annual schedule of IEPs. Draft IEPS and ensure compliance with all components of the IEP. Ensure that all service minutes are provided and appropriately documented through meticulous special education records. Monitor progress toward IEP goals and provide parents with quarterly progress reports Facilitate the evaluation/reevaluation process. Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and District Special Education laws and regulations. Adhere to all operational and programmatic systems and procedures, ensuring sub plans meet criteria and expectations provided. Communicate regularly with families, striving for a ratio of three positive communications for each corrective one. Plan and lead advisory, tutorial, and elective activities as assigned Meet instructional deadlines included but not limited to: Daily preparation of teacher copy, updating the gradebook, and submitting end of semester grades. Uphold PBIS System including participating in student celebrations/awards, entering daily DeansList data, and consistent and frequent communication with families. Actively supervise students during transitions such as arrival, homeroom, passing periods, lunch, and dismissal. Attend and participate in school-wide events including Back to School Night, Parent/Teacher conferences, End of the Year events, Grade Level Meetings, Department Meetings, Summer Professional Development, weekly Professional Development during the school year, and other assigned meetings. Demonstrate proficient use of technology to communicate with staff, families, and community members using multiple school-based platforms. Utilize Educational Technology platforms for curriculum development and planning. Other duties as assigned by the Principal or an administrator.

Requirements

  • Earned Bachelor’s Degree.
  • California Special Education Credential; are currently working towards one; or, are committed to working towards a credential.
  • Candidates with an intern credential (or who are open to pursuing one) will also be considered.
  • Possession of either an English Learner (EL) Authorization, Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate, Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD), or Bilingual Certificate of Competence (BCC), or are working towards this.
  • Knowledge of federal and state education rights of students and responsibilities of schools, including IEP processes (testing and implementation of accommodations and modifications)
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check through the Department of Justice.
  • Obtain a negative TB reading prior to starting employment.
