The System Pharmacy Technician Education Specialist is a registered and nationally certified pharmacy technician who is responsible for developing and providing education and competency activities for pharmacy personnel under the supervision of the System Pharmacy Education Manager. This role will be responsible to promote educational and quality outcomes consistent with the goals of the department. In collaboration with their manager, they will ensure compliance with regulatory agencies including but not limited to: accreditation agencies, CHFS, DEA, and Kentucky and Indiana State Board of Pharmacies. Demonstrates proficiency with all pharmacy practice standards including but not limited to dispensing, restocking, specialty, transitions of care and other related tasks in a community and/or hospital pharmacy setting. Assists System Pharmacy Education Manager with onboarding, orientation, and training of new hires. Coordinates, facilitates, and promotes education, training, competency assessment, and performance improvement of healthcare professionals on updates in the applicable area of expertise. Serves as a system technician lead for training of pharmacy EHR, automation, and other supporting pharmacy systems. Conducts task related competencies for pharmacy personnel to ensure appropriate education has been delivered. Coordinates scheduling of in-services and other educational opportunities as they may arise. Collaborates with System Pharmacy Education Manager to provide training that ensures safety, quality, regulatory, and professional standards are met. Serves as a system lead subject matter expert on pharmacy technician related education and competencies. Assists System Pharmacy Education Manager and/or pharmacy leadership team to develop and maintain mandatory annual compliance and regulatory training requirements. Travels to sites to provide education or in services, as required. Supports training and delivers curriculum for internal and external BH associated technician programs. Evaluates all aspects of technician education processes, including the assessment of staff learning needs, development of curriculums, and implementation of educational programs/offerings. Develops, reviews, and revises procedures, teaching records, performance checklists, and orientation competency maps, as they relate to staff education. Serves as an active committee member of various committees involving pharmacy. Develops and coordinates pharmacy performance improvement initiatives, including those designed to measure and improve the timely, safe, and accurate preparation and dispensing of medication, and appropriate monitoring of drug therapy.
