About The Position

We are currently hiring for a 1.0 FTE/Day Shift. 8-hour shift with some flexible with start/end time for our St. Paul Campus. Critical Care Education Specialist position. Responsibilities include onboarding, competency management, and professional development for staff in critical care areas, including the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Perianesthesia, and Surgical Services. Additional responsibilities include supporting ongoing educational needs for the critical care departments and serving the larger clinical education needs of the organization. MUST HAVE CRITICAL CARE EXPERIENCE - Intensive Care, Perianesthesia, and/or Surgical Services. The Education Specialist is responsible for advancing professional nursing practice and supporting staff development through evidence-based education, competency management, and collaborative initiatives. The Education Specialist promotes excellence in patient care through ongoing preparation and development of competent, caring, and compassionate team members. The Education Specialist supports patient care delivery through leadership of staff education which maximizes outcomes in a manner consistent with Gillette’s mission and philosophies, and in accordance with professional practice standards. Education specialists are aligned with a specific department(s) but collaborate across the organization to support the ongoing learning and development needs of nursing and other patient care teams. They coordinate annual assessment of department learning needs, develop annual education plans for the department(s) they support, and facilitate student experiences in their specialty area(s). Additionally, they are responsible for supporting implementation of best practices for their associated care areas into organizational workflows through education and development. They practice under the Nursing Professional Development Practice Model from the Association for Nursing Professional Development, which includes six key areas of focus: Onboarding/orientation Competency management Department-level education Role development Collaborative partnership Inquiry

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license through the MN Board of Nursing
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or other healthcare related field
  • A minimum of three years of recent experience as a registered nurse in a relevant critical care setting (i.e., Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Perianesthesia, and/or Surgical Services depending on the specific position) depending on the specific position) depending on the specific position)
  • Current certification in CPR-BLS for Health Care Providers by the American Heart Association

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in nursing or related field
  • Current Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Certification
  • Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

Responsibilities

  • Orientation and Onboarding Coordinate and facilitate orientation programs for new hires. Ensure orientation content aligns with current policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Assign preceptors in collaboration with department leadership. Support new hire access to organizational systems.
  • Competency Management Manage and evaluate the competency of new and existing staff. Collaborate with department leaders to ensure ongoing staff competence. Provide training for new equipment and procedures. Ensure competency programs meet compliance, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Education Conduct practice gap analyses and learning needs assessments. Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs. Coordinate continuing education in alignment with accreditation standards. Integrate innovative teaching strategies and technology into educational offerings.
  • Role Development Develop and maintain role transition programs for new-to-practice and transitioning staff. Provide preceptor and leadership development programs. Support succession planning and career coaching. Advise on academic education planning and clinical advancement models.
  • Collaborative Partnerships Collaborate with interprofessional teams to enhance patient care and education. Develop and deliver interprofessional education programs. Participate in councils, committees, and quality initiatives. Manage clinical and academic partnerships, including student placements.
  • Inquiry and Evidence-Based Practice Participate in research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives. Collect, analyze, and apply data to support educational and clinical outcomes.
