About The Position

The Daily Courier , Prescott, Arizona’s trusted community newspaper, is growing—and we’re looking for an innovative, driven journalist to take on the critical role of Education Solutions Reporter . This full-time position focuses exclusively on the education beat , covering local schools, policy changes, and innovative solutions that impact students, teachers, and families in Yavapai County and beyond. Our ideal candidate isn’t just reporting on challenges but seeks out solutions , highlighting what’s working and how education can evolve to serve the community better. Funding for this position was provided by the Arizona Local News.

Requirements

• A self-starter who thrives on breaking stories and diving deep into education issues.
• Passionate about local journalism and the role it plays in strengthening communities.
• Comfortable using data, public records, and innovative storytelling techniques
• A strong writer with at least 2 years of journalism experience (education reporting is a plus).
• Skilled in multimedia storytelling, photography, and/or social media engagement

Responsibilities

• Cover K-12 schools, higher education, and vocational programs with an emphasis on solutions-focused journalism
• Investigate education policies, funding, curriculum changes, teacher shortages, and student success stories
• Build relationships with educators, parents, students, and policymakers to ensure well-rounded coverage
• Work on enterprise stories and in-depth projects that go beyond daily news cycles
• Engage with the community through social media, events, and audience-driven reporting
• Collaborate with The Daily Courier’s growing newsroom on cross-beat stories
