Serves as an unclassified employee pursuant to Section 3301.13 R.C. and performs the following educational and/or research duties: Serves as an education program specialist for instructional practices in the Office for Exceptional Children (e.g., designs and disseminates professional development and technical assistance resources in order to build capacity in the state to utilize instructional practices tied to Specially Designed Instruction; promotes the use of instructional practices as aligned with the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework, Integrated Multi-Tiered System of Supports framework and Ohio’s Learning Standards through 1) technical assistance to educators, teachers, administrators and State Support Teams; 2) collaboration with other agency staff to ensure alignment of initiatives (i.e., Offices of Academic Success, Literacy, School and District improvement, Assessment, Career-Tech, Teaching Profession); Represents the Office for Exceptional Children at conferences, statewide and regional meetings; stays current and disseminates latest research, literature and best practices related to instructional practices. Monitors implementation and use of instruction and assessment in Ohio; recommends policy to improve instructional practice; connects the use of Specially designed instruction and assessment with statewide school improvement initiatives (i.e., Integrated Muti-Tiered System of Supports, SPDG, SIG). Leads the work associated with the model policies and procedures for special education. Participates in special projects and perform other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • 6 years of experience: providing support and services to children with disabilities, including experience with a multi-tiered system of supports.
  • interpreting legislation and law (i.e., operating standards, Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Administrative Code, state/federal requirements and guidelines, providing direction/guidance to stakeholders).
  • performing one of the following measurements/psychometrics, educational policy development, assessment/evaluation in a government and/or educational setting.
  • 6 years of experience: providing support and services to those who work with children with disabilities (i.e., teacher, administrator, professional development provider, technical assistance provider).
  • interpreting legislation and law (i.e., operating standards, Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Administrative Code, state/federal requirements and guidelines, providing direction/guidance to stakeholders).
  • performing one of the following\: measurements/psychometrics, educational policy development, assessment/evaluation, multi-tiered system of support development in a government and/or educational setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a master’s degree in one of the following areas\: Education [i.e., special education, educational administration/leadership, curriculum (core academic content)]
  • 3 years of experience providing support and services to children with disabilities.
  • 3 years of experience providing support and services to those who work with children with a variety of disabilities (i.e., teacher, administrator, professional development provider, technical assistance provider).
