The Education Program Consultant (Continuous Improvement) will play a crucial role within the Iowa Department of Education, specifically in the Division of Special Education. This position focuses on providing guidance and expertise in special education, particularly in the implementation of evidence-based practices for students with academic and behavioral needs. The consultant will work collaboratively to enhance educational outcomes and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Provide professional learning for the statewide scaling and implementation of evidence-based practices for the delivery of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI).
  • Facilitate development and delivery teams for instructional design and support.
  • Help districts transition from exclusionary discipline practices to safe learning environments.
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based professional learning in various educational areas.
  • Support monitoring of IDEA implementation and assist in corrective action activities.
  • Participate in the development and dissemination of policy guidance and program regulations.
  • Manage the resolution of audit findings and provide technical assistance to districts.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and five years of relevant post-graduate work experience in education or related fields.
  • A combination of five years of post-graduate education and full-time experience, where 24 semester hours equals one year of experience.
  • Graduation with a Master's degree and three academic years of teaching or administrative experience in PK-12 or post-secondary education.
  • Possession of a School Business Official Authorization and seven years of professional experience in finance, accounting, or auditing.
