About The Position

Under the supervision and direction of the Program Manager, the Education Manager promotes the School Readiness of the Colville Tribal Head Start Program by providing technical assistance, mentoring, and training to the staff, agency, and parents/families. The planning of children’s readiness to learn involves culturally responsive, integrated service delivery of child development, disabilities, and mental health that supports learning environments to: a) enhance children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development and b) promote children’s growth in language, literacy, mathematics, science, social and emotional development, creative arts, physical development, and approaches to learning. Ensures monitoring, agency collaboration and tracking of education services. Requires frequent travel and service to ALL districts of the reservation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree that includes coursework in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field, with emphasis on birth to three aged children.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a perinatal and birth to three enrichment program or child care setting, preference with a minimum of one (1) of those years’ experience working with low-income families or people with varied ethnic backgrounds, preferably Native Americans.
  • Valid driver’s license. Must be eligible for the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation insurance.
  • Health Clearance, with negative TB test and able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within three (3) weeks of employment with the program and a Food Handler’s Permit within 10 days of employment.
  • Specialized knowledge of child guidance principles and practices and an understanding of the goals and objectives of a program for perinatal and birth to three aged children.
  • Special knowledge is required in the emotional, physical, and mental variations and needs of preschool aged children.
  • Working knowledge of curriculum development.
  • Working knowledge of assessment techniques that are age appropriate.
  • Working knowledge of arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, and reading sufficient to direct students with learning exercises or projects.
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures including Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP), Individual Development Plans (IDP), and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) with ability to teach staff and parents/families advocacy.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer and multimedia equipment operations including common office productivity software, internet, and computer-aided teaching programs.
  • Creative writing skills to prepare and/or adapt materials and reports.
  • Well-developed oral communications skills to convey concepts in a classroom and community-based settings, and work cooperatively with a diverse population of children and parents/families.
  • Skill sets to perform the responsibilities of the position including delivery of instruction for staff and parents/families.
  • Ability to understand the needs and differences of children to reach and motivate them to assist the teaching staff.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive, personnel issues, and maintaining appropriate, professional, confidential relationships.
  • Ability to balance emotional support and discipline to deal with behavior problems.
  • Ability to observe, categorize, evaluate, and critique the performance of birth to three children.
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and apply District, State, and Federal requirements and objectives for academic achievement.
  • Ability to monitor, design, and develop instructional objectives for curriculum and evaluate assignments, tests, and student projects.
  • Ability to monitor the development and maintenance of productive and safe classroom environments.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner, in both formal and informal settings with students, fellow staff, and parents.
