About The Position

Spring 2026 paid internships are available at Caldwell Zoo in Tyler, Texas in the area of Education and Events. The Caldwell Zoo is seeking highly motivated, hard-working, professional minded students who want to take advantage of educational opportunities to gain on-the-job experience in the zoological career field. Internship learning opportunities and duties include: Support the Caldwell Zoo Education and Events Department by assisting in the development of education curriculum and special events Assist in teaching classes, school programs, and community outreaches utilizing predetermined presentations Assist in event and volunteer program planning and implementation Provide animal ambassador experiences Provide excellent customer service to all zoo guests, including parents, teachers, chaperones, students, etc. Engage with and educate zoo guests Preparation and breakdown of program materials Know and follow all emergency procedures and protocols Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and be able to work in all inclement weather conditions Completion of various additional duties as assigned Watch animal medical procedures Attend a Veterinary Department meeting Shadow up to five other departments

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be a sophomore in college or have a higher classification
  • Overall GPA must be 2.5 or higher
  • Must pass a background check and have a negative TB Test
  • Required minimum 1 year of paid or unpaid experience working with children
  • Must be comfortable handling and working with animals, including snakes and other reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and invertebrates
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Excellent oral communication skills required

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred 1 year of paid or unpaid experience with education in a zoological camp, museum, school, non-profit, or other related setting

Responsibilities
