About The Position

The Education Director provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for education programs and services serving the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians. Under the direction of the Tribal Administrator, this position develops, administers, and evaluates education programs designed to meet the needs of Tribal children, parents, and adult learners. The Education Director serves as the primary liaison with local school districts, higher education institutions, and partner agencies, oversees education staff and grants, and ensures programs align with Tribal priorities, funding requirements, and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in education administration or program management.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Experience working with education systems, including early intervention or special education programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing, grant administration, and compliance reporting.
  • Experience working with confidential student or family information.
  • Demonstrated experience handling confidential and sensitive records.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally as needed.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • California teaching credential, or ability to obtain one, if required to support tutoring or instructional services.
  • Excellent understanding of Tribal sovereignty, government-to-government relationships, and PL 280.
  • Knowledge of Tribal government operations and education-related federal or state programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, administer, and continuously improve education programs serving Tribal members across the lifespan, including preschool, K–12, higher education, adult education, and enrichment programs.
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate Education Department staff, ensuring effective service delivery and accountability.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Tribe and local school districts, colleges, universities, and educational partners.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with federal, state, local, and Tribal organizations to enhance educational opportunities and resources.
  • Oversee grant-funded education programs, including grant writing, reporting, compliance, and performance monitoring.
  • Research funding opportunities and support development of grant proposals and sustainability strategies.
  • Plan, implement, and manage departmental budgets in coordination with Tribal Administration.
  • Develop and oversee education-related workshops, tutoring services, training programs, and family literacy initiatives.
  • Support advocacy efforts for Tribal students and families, including coordination related to school district processes and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Oversee data collection, reporting, and analysis related to education programs and outcomes.
  • Develop annual education calendars and programming aligned with the needs of Tribal families.
  • Support planning and implementation of future education initiatives, including after-school programs and early childhood or charter school development when funded.
  • Perform duties required under applicable education grants and Tribal requirements.
