JOB SUMMARY The Education Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of the initial orientation and all on-going education and competency programs to meet requirements of federal, state and accrediting bodies. Responsibilities also include coordination and placement of nursing students and intern/observation clinical experiences at the VNA. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.

Requirements

  • Registered Professional Nurse with current license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania required.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • Minimum 2 years Community Health or Home Health experience or 1 year in Education.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with managers to develop, conduct and document orientation activities for all employees.
  • Collaborates with department managers to assess for and provide on-going continuing education, training, and competency activities to meet departmental, agency, regulatory requirements and strategic initiatives.
  • Oversees the records management of all orientation and continuing education activities to meet network, agency and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborates with other SLUHN departments and outside organizations to utilize resources for the provision of quality, effective education to agency employees.
  • Evaluates the education program on an annual basis to determine achievement of outcomes and opportunities for improvement...
  • Manages the cardio-pulmonary resuscitation certification program for staff and validates the competency of CPR instructors at a minimum of every other year.
  • Collaborates with Network leaders in the provision of education to Network employees that impacts the continuum of care.
  • Chairs and/or serves as advisor to the VNA Patient Education Committee and serves as a member on other committees as requested.
  • Collaborates with institutional faculty and departmental leaders for the placement of nursing and other students/interns for clinical education experiences at VNA.
  • Participates in activities that promote professional growth and development.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use appropriate computer software.
  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
  • Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
  • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.
  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
  • Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
  • Maintains certification as a BLS Instructor.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
