About The Position

The Education Assistant is a temporary, part-time position within the Education & Public Programs department, aimed at making the museum accessible through various programs for children, teens, families, and adults. The role involves engaging with visitors, particularly youth, and supporting the museum's mission to provide access to art. The position reports to the Director of Youth & Family Programs and includes responsibilities such as customer service, program support, and visitor engagement.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a high volume and customer service focused setting.
  • Strong skills in ticketing software, preferably in Tessitura.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Curious about making museums accessible.
  • Open availability including holidays, nights, weekdays, and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred fluency in other languages besides English.
  • Art-making skills.
  • Art history or arts education knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Actively demonstrates a guest-first attitude by exemplifying excellent internal and external guest service skills at all times with all ages, especially kids, families, and older adults.
  • Welcome visitors, answer questions, and provide information about the campus, programs, and exhibitions.
  • Promotes NexGenLA to parents, guardians, and families who visit and live in Los Angeles County.
  • Operates computer and Tessitura member dashboard while maintaining a strict attention to accuracy.
  • Assists Teaching Artists and Youth & Family Programs staff with program preparation, set up, interactions with participants, clean up, and breakdown.
  • Maintains a conversational knowledge of LACMA's general policies and procedures and the exhibition and programming schedule.
  • Communicates factual, educational, and necessary information with colleagues, visitors, and members via excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance; practices good time management skills.
  • Attends trainings and meetings, as needed.
  • Escalates any guest service issues, complaints, or unanswerable questions to the Director, Youth & Family Programs.
  • Ability to work outdoors and willingness to work in various weather conditions.
  • Assists other department staff with programs as needed.
  • Performs other duties or projects as assigned.

Benefits

  • The expected hourly rate for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $19.50.
