Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial seeks two interns to support youth and family program development and bilingual education and interpretation programs and products for use at the park site and within the surrounding community. LIBO has successfully hosted two LHIP interns in 2023, 2024, and 2025, who created strong connections with surrounding communities and built upon the successes of previous seasons. Past LHIP interns developed public programs for community settings and served students at local festivals, libraries, and summer camp programs. They also created a new exhibit for the Memorial Visitor Center focused on Nancy Hanks Lincoln’s cause of death, as well as a short film featuring the “Tiny Titans” of Lincoln Boyhood. Interns have continued to build meaningful relationships with community organizations such as ALASI and Carnival Latino, and the park hopes to continue these efforts. Approximately 29% of the population of Huntingburg, Indiana (about 11 miles north of the park boundaries), identifies as Hispanic or Latino. The 2026 Latino Heritage Interns will develop audience-centered experiences and programs primarily geared toward Spanish speakers, and will develop and update park educational and interpretive products. Potential program topics may include southern Indiana nature, pioneer life, Abraham Lincoln’s time in southern Indiana, on-site living historical farm tours, and Memorial Visitor Center exploration. Throughout the summer, interns will engage in outreach with Latinx communities to expand existing programs and reestablish previously forged connections, particularly in the Huntingburg area. Hosting LHIP interns in 2026 is an important part of LIBO’s efforts to maintain continuity in outreach with local Latinx communities.
