Position Summary: Working from blueprints, sketches, specifications, verbal, or written instructions, the EDM/CNC Lathe Operator sets up, adjusts, programs, and operates a computerized numerical control (CNC) lathe and a wire electrical discharge machine (EDM). The incumbent will be required to perform all operational functions as described in the machine operation manuals and will maintain quality standards to achieve required tolerances for all parts. Key Results Areas by Level of Work (Level I) Quality - Complete and accurate work performed efficiently Performs programming, set-up, operation, and basic maintenance of electrical discharge machine (EDM) and CNC Lathe. Establishes standard boundary parameters for feeds, speeds, and other machine limits. Selects operation sequences for data entry and reviews a CRT display to check for accuracy of data input. Performs in-process inspection, periodically verifying conformance to drawings, specifications, and operation sheets, using precision measuring instruments such as scales, calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators. Maintains quality standards to achieve required tolerances. Will recommend tooling applications and sequences for new or unusual operations. Will be required to manually debur and polish various parts. Follow instructions - oral and/or written Using instructions contained in the operation manual, performs the necessary functions related to the set up of the machine, requiring an understanding of the nomenclature and codes for data entry into the computer console. Performs other duties as assigned by the area Production Lead and his/her designate. Safety & Housekeeping Observes safe work procedures and maintains good housekeeping standards. Wears appropriate gear and clothing as necessary. Maintains a clean work area with no clutter. Practices safety at all times while at work. Follows safety policies and procedures and speaks up when others are non-compliant. Continual Improvement suggestions Will perform some set-ups and instructional training for machinists of other job classifications. Will recommend tooling applications and sequences for new or unusual operations. Will be required to monitor spare parts and maintenance items. Professional Development Will be required to attend applicable schooling on or off site.
