About The Position

POLITICO's New York team is seeking an editorial intern for Summer 2025. The intern will contribute to the Playbook newsletter and cover political events in New York City, including the Mayor and City Council. This role involves various aspects of content creation and production, providing a comprehensive learning experience in journalism.

Requirements

• A can-do attitude and initiative.
• Good time management skills and ability to work well under pressure.
• Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to explain story ideas to a sophisticated audience.
• Ability to write quickly and cleanly while on deadline.
• Prior hands-on experience as an intern at a professional news outlet, ideally with experience on a student publication.
• A passion for politics and policy.

Responsibilities

• Pitch, report and write stories of consequence for the audience of influential professionals in New York and POLITICO's national readership.
• Cover spot news as assigned by editors.
• Work with the New York Playbook team to write and produce the daily newsletter on politics in the state.
• Engage in all aspects of content creation and production, including research, reporting, writing, editing, and aggregating.
