Christianity Today (CT) serves its readers as a thoughtful and trustworthy source for news and analysis from an evangelical perspective. The Editorial Director of news upholds CT’s journalistic standards and exhibits biblical understanding and judgment while leading a team that is curious, creative, principled, and diligent in its commitment to truth-telling and storytelling. Functions and Responsibilities Manage CT’s news team, including other editors, staff writers, and regular freelancers and correspondents. Assign and edit news and news analysis stories, in the process covering what Christians do and providing a biblical perspective on general news developments. Discover news that is of interest to CT readers—both stories that other outlets are covering and those stories that others have missed. Ensure CT’s content upholds journalistic standards, ethics, and CT’s values. Work with editors to sharpen news value, angles, and headlines across the website and social media. Speak about CT stories on The Bulletin and other CT podcasts. Travel for reporting and team meetings. Appraise the executive editor and editor in chief of sensitive news stories and investigations and consult with legal counsel as needed. Find and train freelance journalists, communicating CT’s working philosophy, vision, mission, the interests and needs of its readers, journalistic ethics, and otherwise helping the reporters to develop manuscripts into acceptable articles. Work compatibly and collaboratively with other CT staff members, in the process developing effective workflows within the news team and the editorial team. Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
