Requirements

  • 7+ years experience in video and audio lead production, working in story and format development, booking, producing, scripting, and editing.
  • Strong background in tech, business, science, culture, and/or policy.
  • Experience managing a production team and delivering against tight deadlines.
  • Very strong storytelling skills and experience working across multiple show formats and distribution platforms.
  • Deep familiarity with YouTube video production, publishing, and analytics.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Expertise in coaching and growing on-air talent and mentoring junior staff.
  • Deep knowledge of production and post-production processes.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at various production stages in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead audio and video teams and oversee flagship podcasts, The Vergecast and Decoder with Nilay Patel.
  • Manage all aspects of day-to-day audio and video production for existing shows.
  • Pilot, develop, and produce future series.
  • Grow audio and video audiences through great, differentiated programming and smart marketing and distribution.
  • Shape the creative direction of shows, bringing deep subject matter expertise in technology and business.
  • Directly manage producers, audio engineers, video producers, and audio freelancers as needed for all shows.
  • Establish and execute strong pre- and post-production workflows and stakeholder communication.
  • Step in on day-to-day production as needed: generating and vetting episode ideas, booking diverse guests, and leading questions and scripting.
  • Work closely with the network development team on sponsorship RFPs; manage all production and deliverables for sponsored episodes.
  • Develop and lead expansion into new projects, including live shows, special events, and limited-run series.
  • Work closely with Verge leadership to grow and transition the team to the needs of the podcasting business.
  • Help Verge journalists, show hosts, and talent develop their on-air skills.
