The Editorial Creator will serve as a lead contributor to the university's magazine and newsroom, dedicating the majority of their efforts to generating impactful stories, features, and editorial content. Approximately 70% of this role will focus on researching, writing, and editing for both print and digital publications, as well as developing engaging multimedia content to enhance DU's storytelling and ensure the university's narrative remains vibrant and relevant. This position will spend about 10% of their time providing editorial support for the university's podcast initiatives and providing overall project management support, and 20% supporting experience management (XM) activities, connecting collected experience data to the narratives being shaped for magazine, newsroom, and podcast audiences. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and editor with a passion for storytelling in a journalistic context, able to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment while collaborating closely with a range of university stakeholders.

  • Drive the creation of feature stories, news articles, and campus profiles that capture the university's spirit and achievements across both print and digital outlets.
  • Engage with faculty, staff, and students to uncover and shape meaningful narratives, ensuring all voices are thoughtfully represented.
  • Play an active role in advising content strategy, anticipating opportunities to highlight the university's evolving story.
  • Collaborate on executive communications to support the shaping of remarks, talking points, and messaging to best reflect and include the stories collected through editorial discovery.
  • Create engaging photo and video content to enhance the university's storytelling and foster deeper audience connection.
  • Connect insights from collected experience data with editorial planning, ensuring that the stories told in print, digital, and podcast formats authentically reflect the voices and experiences of the university community.
  • Collaborate with other XM users and stakeholders to interpret survey results and feedback, translating these findings into meaningful content themes and story opportunities that strengthen the university's narrative.
  • Coordinate owned project timelines, approvals, and deliverables to keep editorial and media initiatives on track.
  • Monitor and interpret metrics, using insights to inform future storytelling.
  • Maintain organized archives of published stories, preserving the university's narrative for future generations.
  • Oversee podcast student contributors and support podcast production efforts.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 1 year experience.
  • Experience in higher education or mission-driven organizations.
  • Familiarity with experience management.
  • Basic knowledge of SEO and digital publishing practices.
  • Comfort with interviewing and sourcing stories from diverse stakeholders.
