About The Position

The Editorial Assistant will provide essential administrative and editorial support to two Senior Editors at HarperCollins Publishers, focusing on a diverse range of literary genres including fiction, poetry, cookbooks, and non-fiction. This role is crucial for managing the workflow of book projects from acquisition to publication, ensuring effective communication between departments and with external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • College degree or 1+ year of relevant work experience.
  • Genuine interest in literary fiction, literature in translation, poetry, non-fiction, and cookbooks.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and social media platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in a foreign language is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage schedules and maintain records for book projects from acquisition to publication.
  • Act as the liaison between Editorial and other departments, as well as conduct external communications with agents and authors.
  • Prepare publication materials, including contract requests, title information sheets, and manuscript transmittals.
  • Keep data per book title up-to-date in the company's internal systems, including new blurbs and review quotes.
  • Traffic manuscripts through production, liaising with authors to meet publishing deadlines.
  • Assist in the acquisitions process by reading and evaluating manuscripts and proposals.
  • Track submissions and write rejection letters as needed.
  • Evaluate market competition and trends, and research ideas for new projects.
  • Provide administrative support by scheduling, managing mailings, and alerting authors of price promotions.
  • Apply for translation grants and manage application deadlines.
  • Schedule departmental meetings and assist with literary prize submissions.
