About The Position

The Editorial Assistant (EA) at Princeton University's Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) plays a crucial role in supporting the editorial offices of the prestigious journal, World Politics. This part-time position involves managing administrative tasks essential for the journal's operations, including manuscript management, financial reporting, social media content development, and website maintenance. The EA will work closely with the executive editor to enhance their editorial skills and contribute to the journal's growth and engagement.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in administration, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative.
  • Interest in scholarly publishing.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to develop and execute engaging social media content strategies.
  • Strong understanding of analytics to measure and optimize campaign performance.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in academic publishing.
  • Experience with web-based content management systems.
  • Experience with SharePoint and ScholarOne.

Responsibilities

  • Logs in manuscripts submitted via ScholarOne and performs clerical and administrative tasks as required.
  • Corresponds with submitting authors to ensure proper manuscript submission and vetting reviewer suggestions for conflicts of interest.
  • Follows up on overdue reviews and liaises with authors about the status of their submissions.
  • Maintains and updates the World Politics manuscript tracking spreadsheet (Excel) and manuscript submission site (ScholarOne).
  • Maintains folders on SharePoint, ensuring that all information is current and relevant.
  • Compiles reviewer sheets for all reviews and packets of reviews for all original and revised articles (Adobe).
  • Works with the executive editor to compile editorial meeting agendas and assemble meeting review packets.
  • Develops social media content for the journal, collaborating with the communications team at PIIRS.
  • Maintains and expands the journal's website to engage and grow its audience.
  • Assists the executive editor on short-term projects as needed.
