About The Position

SNA International, a world leader in forensics, biometrics, and identity intelligence, is currently looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Editor with a strong work ethic to join the team. SNA International’s team works together in pursuit of the same cause: to build a safe and just world by empowering organizations in the use of forensics, biometrics, and identity intelligence. This position will be responsible for the copy editing of final drafts of Southeast Asia Conflict Case Narratives, Case Summary Reports, and Indo-Pacific Reports from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA). This is a 100% onsite position on the island of O’ahu in Hawaii.

Requirements

  • B.A./B.S. degree in English, Journalism, Communications, History, Philosophy, Liberal Arts, or Professional Writing.
  • Demonstrated English language proficiency with strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Proven experience in editing and formatting technical reports and papers and delivering finished products with tight deadlines.
  • Possession of exceptional writing and grammar skills, including mastery of grammar, word usage, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Possession of excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage time and effort, including prioritizing work and handling multiple, simultaneous due dates.
  • Possess strong attention to detail and excellent recordkeeping skills.
  • Possess exceptional organizational skills.
  • Possess the ability to prioritize responsibilities, multi-task, and work well under pressure.
  • Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • A demonstrated history of initiative and achievement
  • Strong written and oral communication skills evidenced by publication, technical report, and conference presentation record.
  • Experience working independently with minimal direction or supervision.
  • Experience supporting and anticipating client needs and demonstrating problem-solving skills.
  • Experience performing tasks under tight deadlines and managing shifting priorities.
  • Able to work well independently, as well as in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform substantive, structural, and copy edits of Case Narratives, Case Summary Reports, and other Indo-Pacific Reports for organization, completeness, accuracy, and readability.
  • Review the reports for compliance with the language, style, and formatting requirements of the Indo-Pacific Style Guide and SOPs.
  • Develop style guides that adhere to Agency standards.
  • Work closely with Agency historians, archaeologists, and analysis throughout the editing process.
  • Edit to improve sense, logic, organization, flow, and accuracy; clarify language; improve conciseness; reduce wordiness, and fit space requirements.
  • Correct all grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.
  • Verify all facts, tables, figures, and sources for accuracy.
  • Confirm the accuracy and consistency of names, dates, and technical information.
  • Advise the Indo-Pacific Directorate on revising report templates to optimize efficiency and functionality.
  • Communicate queries and comments tactfully to authors.
  • Utilize online-editing tools in Adobe and Microsoft Office products.
  • Work closely with analysts, from the early stages of manuscript development through the entire publishing process, including final reviews of text, graphics, and other formats for scientific products to help them organize and refine analytic content into an effective product.
