About The Position

Reuters is seeking an experienced and talented editor to drive U.S. news coverage for our national news file, including stories ranging from natural disasters and school shootings to national politics. This editor will directly manage several reporters located across the United States and will focus on the big news stories of the day and week while also developing enterprise work on deeper issues such as education, religion or criminal justice. In addition to a deep background in text journalism, the successful candidate must be versed in video and photojournalism and adept at coordinating closely across formats. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of U.S. general and political news, with a proven track record of covering major breaking events, deploying staff and shaping news coverage, under intense competitive pressure and deadlines. Experience in working closely with reporters to develop enterprise stories is a plus. This job will require the editor to work at least two evenings/nights each week, overseeing the late U.S. news file. The position reports to the Editor, U.S. General News, and will be based in one of the following bureau locations: New York, Washington DC, Chicago or Houston.
