About The Position

The Editor-in-Chief (EIC) will serve as Editor, Radiology. The Editor is responsible for encouraging submissions of scientific manuscripts, for setting high standards of scientific integrity, for developing guidelines and mechanisms for peer review of submitted manuscripts, for release of accepted manuscripts on a timely basis for publication, and for formulating and interpreting editorial philosophy and policies for Radiology. The EIC will also oversee the publication of RSNA Journals, collaborating with the AED, the Publications Council Chair, and the Board Liaison for Publications. The EIC will uphold and defer to the editorial independence of each RSNA Journal Editorial Board. The maximum term is 10 years; the initial term is 5 years, which may be extended upon mutual agreement.

Requirements

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have previously engaged as members of the Society.
  • Significant record of authorship of scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience as a reviewer, editor, publication manager, and/or science communicator.
  • Preference for candidates who have previously served as associate editors or editor for one or more journals in the field of radiology or imaging science.
  • Possess a graduate degree (MD or PhD) with expertise in radiology or medical imaging science.
  • Established network spanning academia, industry, and private practice within the professional field of radiology.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with RSNA's leaders and communicate vision and map strategies for achieving RSNA Journal's future successes.
  • Solid and sound judgment skills and willingness to be held accountable for editorial decisions.
  • Established leadership experience in an editorial or academic setting.
  • Ability to work within an established budget.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Editor of Radiology ensuring efficient, transparent, and accurate peer-review and editorial assessment of all original research manuscripts submitted to Radiology.
  • Have final responsibility in the selection, revision, and rejection of proffered manuscripts submitted to Radiology.
  • Set the editorial procedures for the evaluation of manuscripts through Radiology's peer review system.
  • Ensure the accuracy and veracity of the scientific and academic content of Radiology.
  • Review and advise on any conflict(s) of interest declared by any author or member of the Editorial Board of Radiology.
  • Maintain scientific standards of Radiology that encourage technical quality, research integrity, and rigor of methodology over perceived novelty.
  • Nominate Radiology editorial board members for approval by the Board within the budget allocated by the Board.
  • Solicit submissions for Radiology at scientific conferences.
  • Adhere to the distinction between editorial and publisher responsibilities as defined by the ICMJE and WAME.
  • Establish regular communication with the RSNA Journal Editors and foster a culture of shared responsibility and accountability among editors, editorial board members, and the publications team.
  • Develop a 3-5 year editorial strategic plan for the journal portfolio including annual objectives and metrics of success for review by the Publications Council.
  • Encourage global manuscript submissions and enhance the journal portfolio.
  • Submit new ideas for the portfolio of journals that will affect budget during the established yearly budgeting period.
  • Ensure RSNA Journals adhere to established fiscal policies and yearly budget.
  • Convene the RSNA Journal Editors during the Society's annual meeting and other times when necessary to review policies and procedures.
  • Act as an ambassador to promote the best interests of RSNA Journals and the Society.
