About The Position

The Editing/Photography Intern works closely with the Festival Photographer to build a strong digital catalog of all Festival photography and to support the collection needs of the department. Primary assignments will include editing images for the photography team for quality and fast turn around, support of photographic process centered on dress rehearsals, Festival performances, classes, and events to produce images for the promotion of Jacob’s Pillow and inclusion in our digital Archives. The Photography Internship offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, professional environment and learn about the marketing use and archival importance of photographs. Photography Interns spend a number of hours each week editing photos of visiting companies in rehearsal, dance classes in The School at Jacob’s Pillow, donor events, scholar and artist-led talks, and performances on our outdoor stage; in this capacity, they support the media and photography teams relationship with all departments, our many Festival artists, members, and the general public.

Requirements

  • Possess a strong passion for digital photography
  • Have a working knowledge of Pixieset & AfterShoot.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Creative and adaptable, able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge in any photography editing software (Lightroom, Photoshop) preferred.
  • Experience with or access to professional level camera equipment is preferred - (i.e. 24-70mm + 70-200mm lenses - camera flash)
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Be comfortable shooting live action in low, in/outdoor, and varying light situations.
  • Experience and working knowledge of flash for event photography
  • Strong written communication skills with a keen sense for visual design and storytelling.

Responsibilities

  • Editing, tagging, cataloging all photographs into a digital photo archive
  • Including Photo culling, color correction editing, photo ID-ing, key-wording and organizing for all photographers on the team.
  • Uploading to online galleries for delivery to artists
  • Providing photo assistant support to our Festival Photographer
  • Creating and curating visuals for the Pillow’s social media platforms.
  • As a member of the intern class, you will be required to participate in general festival-related duties that aim to broaden your scope and understanding of the various arts administration roles that exist within this field as time allows and requirements evolve. These will include but are not limited to giving campus tours, golf carting patrons, handing out tickets at will call and other ways to interact with guests, moving chairs, setting up for events, errands, and transporting artists. Training will be provided prior to participation in these activities, and while these duties will be a part of your overall experience, you will still spend the majority of your time within your primary assigned role.
  • 5-8 hours a week will be dedicated to participating in weekly seminars, career building conversations, attending dance classes, lectures, and performances.
