The ED Technician plays a crucial role in providing routine patient care under the supervision of healthcare professionals, including Physicians and Nurses. This position involves assisting in various medical procedures, maintaining equipment, and ensuring effective patient management in the Emergency Department. The technician is expected to utilize clinical skills, engage in patient and family education, and contribute to a multidisciplinary approach to care.

  • Assists Physicians, Surgeons Assistants, and Nurses in various patient procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, and orthopedic splinting.
  • Prepares set-up for medical procedures including suturing, surgery, and spinal taps.
  • Maintains department equipment through cleaning and disinfection after use, and ensures knowledge of current Emergency Department technology.
  • Assists in examination and management during various medical procedures and emergencies.
  • Transports patients safely from vehicles and beds, utilizing proper stabilization and body mechanics.
  • Documents patient information necessary for admissions, procedures, and transfers, and records all procedures performed.
  • Assists with general clerical duties in the Emergency Department, including checking and stocking supplies.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associates Degree preferred.
  • Certification by the New York State Department of Health as an EMT required; AEMT certification preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience in an acute hospital setting or related clinical experience required.
  • Demonstrated competency in at least one of the following preferred: EKG testing, venipuncture procedures, or CPR.
  • Experience in a fast-paced emergency department setting.
