Organization: ABSMC-Summit Campus Position Overview: Performs routine patient care, support, and services in accordance with the legal scope of practice and within established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Integrates education, technical competence, and patient interaction skills to gain confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers. Exercises sound judgment, and developed clinical skills to support the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis in a timely manner. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety to help deliver optimal patient care. May also be responsible for performing specific tasks and/or orienting other staff to the department. Job Description : EMERGENCY SERVICES Provides appropriate, direct patient care to patients under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Performs selected procedures, including but limited to taking vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure), collecting specimens, ambulation and physical activities, and after-death care. Provides basic patient care relating to nutrition, elimination, hygiene and mobility. Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames. Maintains equipment and understands procedures and treatments performed by physicians. Explains and educates the patient on process of examinations, tests and medical procedures in a clear and professional manner to alleviate fear and anxiety. Mentors and fosters a constructive environment that helps students and new Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) build confidence in their skills, knowledge and abilities. CLERICAL Performs general clerical tasks, such as answering phones; updating patient appointments; or retrieving, entering, and revising patient electronic health records (EHR). Prepares and completes accurate documentation related to patient, including all treatment performed, in medical and departmental records as required. SAFETY Maintains a clean, neat, and safe working environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment after each procedure. Inspects and calibrates equipment accordingly for proper operation and records the quality control (QC) results, reporting any malfunctions to the supervisor. COMPLIANCE Maintains strictest confidence of all patients protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure. Performs quality care in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulatory agencies to deliver the highest level of patient privacy and care. May prepare, administer, and document medications and treatments in accordance with state and federal regulations.
