Summary: Collects and performs limited tests of specimens per physician order according to established procedures. Assists physician and nurse with designated procedures. Performs related secretarial/clerical duties to include preparing, compiling, and maintaining patient records.

Requirements

  • Graduate of approved Medical Assistant program or certification by the State of Ohio as an Emergency Medical Technician or equivalent combination of education and experience that has provided skills in patient care to include taking vital signs and phlebotomy.
  • One (1) year of patient care experience.
  • Ability to attain BLS-C certification during initial training period and maintain certification thereafter.
  • Ability to communicate with physicians, patients, and other hospital staff.
  • Ability to collect samples (e.g. blood, throat cultures, point of care testing) and to perform limited testing of such specimens.
  • Ability to conduct EKG's.
  • Ability to instruct patients in crutch walking and provide other routine patient instructions.
  • Ability to take initiative to contribute beyond the scope of formal duties (e.g. suggesting innovative ideas and providing feedback on a team's direction).
  • Ability to be self-directive in executing responsibilities within a team structure.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Assumes accountability for demonstrated behaviors consistent with the customer service policy.
  • Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
