About The Position

The ED Technician is responsible for supporting Altru's commitment to patient care and the patient experience within the Emergency Department and throughout the organization. This role requires a strong working knowledge of clinical terminology, equipment, and supplies. The technician performs patient identification and specimen labeling, and provides complete documentation to ensure patient safety and an optimal patient experience. Requirements

  • Nurse Aide certification from North Dakota Board of Health (Within 4 Months of Start Date)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) (Within 90 days of Start Date)
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English

Responsibilities

  • Cleans designated equipment according to equipment and infection control procedures and cleans designated supply storage units and rooms.
  • Performs patient care services, i.e., bathroom assists, attaching monitors, assisting patients with dressing, etc.
  • Performs EKGs including charging, documentation, and transmitting.
  • Restocks patient, staff and linen supplies and maintains inventory control in assigned areas according to inventory listings established by the department.
  • Assembles equipment and supplies and coordinates procedures to meet nursing staff needs during and after procedures and treatments.
  • Maintains room readiness by completing room turnover cleaning, ensuring equipment is prepared and ready for next patient, and ensuring adequate stock of bedside supplies.
  • Transports/transfers patients within the department, hospital or outside the hospital.
  • Coordinates patient transfers between Altru campuses for appointments and/or admission.
  • Ensures equipment/supplies are not outdated, calls and retrieves needed supplies, and reports needed items.
  • Performs equipment monitoring, set-up and basic troubleshooting per established guidelines.
  • Understands the phlebotomy processes and techniques in order to obtain quality blood specimens to ensure that correct decisions are made regarding specimen collection.
  • Actively communicates throughout the shift and manages priority requests in a courteous and timely manner to ensure effective department workflow.
  • Follows up with STAT, ASAP, and Pre-op draws to ensure turnaround times are met.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
