About The Position

Saint Anne's Hospital's Emergency Room Department is a state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2011, covering 13,000 square feet and providing advanced technology and 24-hour rapid medical evaluation and emergency care. The Emergency Room Technician (ER Tech) plays a crucial role in this environment, performing various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary for the comfort and needs of patients. This position operates under the ultimate direction and supervision of a registered nurse, ensuring that all patient care activities are coordinated effectively. The ER Tech is responsible for coordinating patient care activities for all ER patients, which includes managing departmental flow, logging patient information, setting up for procedures, documenting care, providing discharge instructions, and coordinating with other professional services as directed. The role involves hands-on patient care, such as removing sutures and staples after assessment by a physician, applying slings and immobilizers, and performing skin scrubs on dirty wounds prior to laceration repair. The technician also assists with gastric lavage, performs EKGs, and conducts phlebotomy on patients, ensuring accurate documentation of vital signs and interventions in the Emergency Department Clinical Record. In addition to direct patient care, the ER Tech is responsible for maintaining inventory of ER supplies, applying safety principles in testing and maintaining oxygen tanks, and ensuring that sterile instruments are set up correctly for procedures. The position requires consideration of age-specific needs across a diverse patient population, including neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The ER Tech also initiates crutch walking teaching and reviews preprinted instructions with patients, referring any questions to the physicians.
