Requirements

• Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate with patients, visitors and staff both orally and in writing.
• Minimum Experience: Previous experience as Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant or similar.
• Completion of phlebotomy course with at least 120 hours of clinical rotation in a medical arena OR 75 hours of clinical rotation in a medical arena with one (1) year healthcare experience required OR Five (5) years of continuous phlebotomy experience OR Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• Required Certification/Registration: National Phlebotomy Certification required within 6 months or National Medical Assistant certification required within 6 months.
• Completion of AHA - BLS Healthcare Provider Course - Current and On-going.
• Successful completion of Orientation program including classroom and clinical components.
• Must attend hospital crisis training program within 3 months of hire or transfer and annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care to a specific group of patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Assists with toileting i.e. bedpan, commodes, urinals, incontinence care.
• Proper body mechanics for transfers/ambulation.
• Takes and records vital signs.
• Completes phlebotomy tasks as required.
