About The Position

The Emergency Department Technician at Aurora Sinai Medical Center is responsible for assisting physicians and registered nurses in providing technical care to patients. This includes performing phlebotomy and IV starts, transporting patients, placing them on cardiac and vital sign monitors, performing wound care, inserting Foley catheters, and obtaining lab specimens. The technician documents procedures and communicates patient observations to the registered nurse, processes patient charges through the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and collaborates with physicians to facilitate patient care. The role requires maintaining a clean and safe working environment, monitoring equipment, and performing various patient positioning and transporting duties. The technician must demonstrate knowledge of patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served and adhere to departmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic license issued by the state of Wisconsin, or EMT Basic Intravenous license, or EMT Intermediate license, or EMT Paramedic license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) to be obtained within 6 months unless exempted by department leader.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work with Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and families.
  • Ability to manage time and priorities effectively.
  • High level of attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient positioning and transporting duties.
