About The Position

The ED Tech position at Bon Secours Mercy Health involves providing direct patient care in the Emergency Department under the supervision of a registered nurse or designated healthcare professional. The role focuses on ensuring patient comfort, safety, and effective communication between patients and healthcare providers, while adhering to established healthcare regulations and organizational policies.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification preferred upon hire, must obtain prior to direct patient care.
• Current certification for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assisting preferred.
• Previous experience as a Patient Care Tech or in a nursing support role preferred, or a second-year nursing student from an RN program.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a healthcare setting or patient care role is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic patient care including vital sign measurement, personal hygiene, and mobility assistance.
• Performs lab draws, ECGs, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under RN direction.
• Completes patient rounding as assigned and provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
• Acts as a liaison between patients and nurses to report changes and concerns.
• Delivers high-level customer service to patients, families, and visitors.
• Documents patient care accurately and timely as required.
• Participates in handoff reports regarding patient and departmental needs.
• Performs delegated tasks once competency is validated and collects data within scope.
• Completes patient screenings as applicable and promotes quality and safety in patient care delivery.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently and resolve conflicts under stress.
