The ED Tech position at Nemours Children's Health in Wilmington, DE, is responsible for assisting with various activities in the Emergency Department, supporting the healthcare team in patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. The role involves patient assessment, vital signs monitoring, assisting in medical procedures, and ensuring effective communication within the healthcare team.

  • Assist with general activities of the Emergency Department and support the healthcare team in patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Continually assess patients according to the pediatric assessment triangle, noting changes in condition and recognizing immediate life threats.
  • Assist the Rapid Assessment nurse with rapidly assessing new patients, including taking vital signs and cleaning and dressing wounds.
  • Perform vehicle extraction of injured patients, maintaining C-spine and stabilizing broken bones with splinting.
  • Room patients in the Emergency Department according to acuity and available areas after discussion with the Flow Supervisor.
  • Report and document all changes and complications in flow to the Supervisor.
  • Conduct initial assessments for specific monitoring needs after rooming patients, including cardiac monitors and pulse oximetry.
  • Document all intake and output accurately.
  • Maintain communication with RN regarding vital signs out of normal limits or any changes in patient status.
  • Assist healthcare team with procedures such as lumbar puncture, IV catheter insertion, laceration repairs, suctioning, and urinary catheterization.
  • Perform EKGs, nasal washes, flu testing, visual acuity tests, and phlebotomy, including stat phlebotomy lab testing.
  • Transport patients to various units and clinics while monitoring their condition during transport.
  • Respond to 'Stat Responses' in the Emergency Department and initiate CPR for patients in cardiac arrest.
  • Respond to all 'Code Blues' with necessary equipment and be prepared to begin resuscitation on scene.
  • Function in trauma codes and alerts, assisting with patient stabilization and vital signs monitoring.
  • Apply various medical devices such as cast shoes, knee immobilizers, and slings, and assist orthopedic residents with fracture reductions.
  • Stock supplies and maintain equipment within the Emergency Department, ensuring par stock levels are met.
  • High School Diploma
  • Specialized training (1 year of training beyond High School)
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required upon hire
  • EMT certification required upon hire
  • PEARS certification (obtained upon hire)
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a relevant role
