About The Position

The ED RN renders primary nursing care consistent with recognized standards to all patients, family, and the community. Communicates and collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired, quality patient outcomes. Demonstrates the ability to delegate appropriately and coordinate delivery of care; assumes responsibility for the appropriate utilization of care resources; demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with others in problem resolution, is sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and fellow employees. The ED RN provides care to patients with various illnesses or trauma requiring emergency attention, and must be able to recognize and intervene effectively in life-threatening situations.

Requirements

  • 1 year Emergency Department experience required.
  • Graduate of School of Nursing.
  • Current California State License as a Registered Nurse required.
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS upon hire and on-going.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years Emergency Department RN experience.
  • Triage experience with ESI triage assessment tool.
  • Charge RN experience.
  • BSN or MSN.
  • TNCC, CEN and MICN Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs direct patient care in accordance to performance standards listed on Skills checklist according to the defined patient populations for the Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform triage, admission, discharge, transfer procedures.
  • Implements appropriate triage standardized procedures.
  • Uses EHR tracking board effectively for census/acuity monitoring in ED.
  • Utilizes modes of communication to provide continuity of care and to deliver safe care.
  • Utilizes SBAR-QC for all reporting and patient care communications.
  • Provides care based on the approved clinical references, Lippincott Procedures, and Nursing Policies and procedures.
  • Cares for the patient undergoing an invasive and/or operative procedures.
  • Assesses and promotes optimum neurological functioning including pain management.
  • Assesses and promotes or supports optimum patient including but not limited to respiratory and cardiovascular function, optimal gastrointestinal functions, fluid electrolyte balance, including blood administration, musculoskeletal function, skin integrity including preventative measures, and/or genitourinary function.
  • Demonstrates ability to care for the patient with diabetes and other endocrine challenges.
  • Demonstrates appropriate patient safety practices.
  • Reports abuses, suspicious injuries or assaults per NIHD policy and California Penal Code.
  • Provides nursing interventions to assist the patient during the end of life process.
  • Participates in the development and achievement of department annual goals and objectives (action plans) in accordance with Nursing Services / NIHD goals and overall plan for patient care.
  • Complies with departmental staffing practices.
  • Attends regular staff meetings.
  • Participates in ED Annual Competency Skills.
  • Maintain and expand knowledge base and professional development by attending formal and informal educational activities both internal and external to NIHD.
  • May participate on a project team.
  • May participate in the development of and/or revision of process standards such as policies and procedures, standards of care and practice etc.
  • May serve as a preceptor to students, volunteers, and staff as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
