About The Position

The ED Patient Care Technician plays a crucial role in providing direct patient care in the emergency department, focusing on meeting the comfort and hygiene needs of patients while assisting healthcare professionals in various technical and logistical tasks. This position is essential for ensuring quality patient care and effective communication within the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma preferred plus training acquired through work experience or education.
  • Less than one year of previous job-related experience required; 1-2 years preferred.
  • Certified Nurse Assistant certification required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through AHA required.
  • Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or equivalent educational level.

Responsibilities

  • Meets the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient.
  • Assists with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures.
  • Sets up and primes IV tubing and performs 12-lead ECG.
  • Conducts simple tracheostomy suctioning and care, and changes dressings.
  • Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and obtains wound and throat cultures.
  • Assists physician and professional staff in equipment supply and setup.
  • Helps ambulate patients with assistive devices and assists with transfer/transport procedures.
  • Documents required information and communicates effectively to meet patient and family needs.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, employee, and department information.
  • Utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes.
